Overview
reXtore was engaged by the Swedish Chamber of Commerce in Singapore designing and building a highly sustainable pagoda for a community garden in an HDB estate in Bukit Batok, Singapore.
Some interesting features of this sustainable pagoda:
1. The frame is constructed using scaffolding off-cuts and wood from managed forests, ensuring responsible resource utilization. Moreover, the pagoda can be easily dismantled with just a spanner, offering the possibility of repurposing it at the end of its lifecycle.
2. The roof sheets are crafted from recycled tetra Pac drinking boxes, promoting waste reduction.
3. Rainwater is harvested from the roof into large tanks, enabling its use for watering the garden, promoting sustainable water practices.
4. Solar panels power all the garden's electrical needs, including pond pumps, fans, and lighting, harnessing clean and renewable energy.
5. Pre-loved furniture within the garden is carefully sourced and repaired, creating cozy seating and dining areas that foster sustainability and community spirit.
